Category: BCIR, Football — soldierhog @ 03:15

Some of you may remember me starting a new coach-ranking system last year – I would link it, but I lost most of the old stuff when I changed over to breastfedmoonshine.com 2.0. In case you forgot, this is what happened to make me want to do this –

An Open Letter to the University of Arkansas

Category: Basketball — soldierhog @ 16:15

I suppose it is now time for me to weigh in on the 800-pound gorilla in the room, the one that no one seems too terribly shy to discuss, but much less enthusiastic to observe. I will not address my remarks to Mr. Long, because my remarks can not be sufficiently addressed by Mr. Long. My remarks go to all who wield power, however great or marginal, however implicit or explicit, over the athletic department to which I have dedicated years of my life, love and longing, and inches of valuable real estate on my own skin, in the form of a Razorback tattoo. To the movers-and-shakers of this fine institution, I implore an open and reasoned dissection of the words I here present, and ask that you fully consider their implications when deciding how to move forward. Whoopsi!

Category: Uncategorized — soldierhog @ 13:14

Sure, “Ole Miss” may be a title referencing the slave-owner’s wife, and yeah the particular “Rebel” that is the school’s nickname, and the “Colonel Reb” that serves as their mascot are both confederate soldiers, but…uhm…well, this kid will have trouble finding work, even in Oxford.

It’s worth noting that this video has been posted on, and taken down by, youtube a few times already. And while I certainly understand why the decent Ole Miss fans wouldn’t want this shit out there for the world to see, I’m all about freedom of information and whatnot. I’m an Arkansas fan, after all.

We have generally established over the last week and change that, despite many public misconceptions to the contrary, Arkansas is fully capable of becoming an elite program again if the right moves are made. Today, as we eagerly anticipate tomorrow’s season opener against SMS (”Missouri State” seems too highfalutin for the school from Springfield), we turn our attention to where we stand on the possible journey back to “power program” status. Ten Great Myths Index

MYTH – Fine, fine, maybe Arkansas won a bunch of games, but they were in the South West Conference, which would be like playing in Conference USA these days. (more…)

Ten Great Myths – #3 Arkansas was never an elite team.

Ten Great Myths Index

MYTH – Arkansas has never been one of the big boys, and therefore cannot hope to be one of the big boys again. Since Arkansas has never been elite, they cannot expect to ever be in the same company as other elite programs. (more…)

Ten Great Myths – #4 Arkansas fans have unrealistic expectations.

Category: 10 Myths, Football — soldierhog @ 17:33

Ten Great Myths Index

MYTH – Arkansas fans are a crazy bunch who need to accept their fate as a mediocre program, who ran off a very solid coach because he didn’t win a national championship, and who have unrealistic expectations for competition. (more…)
